Went to Hitchcock Nature Center for a couple days of birding and camping. We saw lots of hawks, some very close and some VERY far away. I am still getting used to my new D70, I think I got some good stuff, but my computer is practically senile and it takes forever to go through the images, so not done yet.
Also saw about a million butterflies. My thyroid was being a little sluggish for a while. But I’ve been giving it quite a bit of love and it is turning into more of a butterflyroid, and my vision has been filling up with butterflies as it does.

Sky O’ Raptors

Today started out pretty crumby, one of those days when you kind of wish you never woke up, or at least never turned on your phone. However I ended up cracking and finally getting the lens I need for my birding expedition to Hitchcock Nature Center next week. And then…when I got home, I was still feeling a bit blue, then I looked up at the sky and saw it was full of raptors. Hawks, ospreys, kites, and my fav of late: nighthawks. Yeah! I walked around with my binoculars for a while, but I hardly needed them, the birds came so close. : ) Unfortunately my camera was not set up yet, but I am feeling very hopeful about Hitchcock.

Butterflies

Lots of butterflies in my life lately. They are so very light, at first I wasn’t sure if they could really navigate very well. But, I stand corrected, having seen some decisive butterfly maneuvers lately.

Feather House

I’ve been reading about feather magic from Ted Andrews and going back into my feather collection. I’ve also been noticing more feathers in my walks. Before I just liked touching something that had been up, but now there is more of a potential to use the feather as a tool.
Quote from “Son of a Witch” during Liir’s first flight: “He circled the Emerald City, afraid if he landed he would return to being slightly dead. How could anyone live without flying?”

Nighthawks

Yesterday I was out and about and saw two juvenile bald eagles sharing a pocket of hot air with a whole bunch of night hawks! Must be migrating through, I don’t think I have ever seen one in Iowa City before. They fly similarly to the much smaller cliff swallows and have some sweet white stripes on their wings.

Trani Dad

Bald Eagle Dream 8/23/06:
I’m K vB’s girl but I’m hanging out with Nicole Richie and get hot when I see her non-existent nubs. My father is a cross-dresser (maybe on his way to being a trani) spending most of his time as a lady.
(something happens where I live in a sorority)
I am in a street market making the sorority girls uncomfortable because I am making out with more than one of them.
I keep trying to communicate with my father. He’s embarrassed of his gender situation and avoids me like the plague. Then I see him trying to steal one of my KeepItKiller shawls from a booth at the other end of the market. He almost gets busted by the popo. He’s all dressed to the nines in a silvery sparkly dress. He makes some excuse to the cop that he didn’t know it had a tag on it and starts to walk away (from me, quickly). He doesn’t know I know who he is.
I keep trying to grab his hand as he walks ahead of me. I keep saying: ‘I know who you really are inside.’ over and over. To reassure him that everything is okay. He’s very upset and doesn’t realize what I mean, too worried about his true nature. He gets back to his stall and starts smashing it up. He has a pet/familiar, a bald eagle, who’s perched on the rack. He tells him to go away. He feels he doesn’t deserve the bald eagle’s presense.
