Pudu Gives Warning

I walk next door to Dee’s house. There is a small gathering at that white ranch house that had bunnies in the backyard, like we did when I was a kid. The gathering (maybe a wedding?) is Indian catered. There is a small russet colored deer (pudu?), gorgeous color and fur, and a beautiful cow laying in the yard looking at me. The Cow and Pudu are radiant with life and health. I really want to talk to the Pudu. I look over at him, a little awkwardly. The Pudu comes over to me and takes me across the street (in front of the olive colored ranch house) to talk.

He says, “If you are going to keep living here you’re going to have to change your lifestyle.”

I ask the Pudu, “Aren’t you the Pudu?”

He says, “It doesn’t really matter.”

In response to his statement, I immediately think of midwifery school and some other places I could go besides here in Portland, that wouldn’t be so costly (in both money and time). (“Wasn’t there one I really liked in Vancouver?”) I go check it out.

Hmmm… Happy to see Pudu and the Cow, both so gorgeous. And, I love talking to people and animals in my dreams. The Cow and Pudu seem suspiciously like Anandi Ma and Dileepji. Yeah!!! I was glad for this warning. As I’ve thought about my wanting to go back to school, I’ve always been leery of the money and lifestyle crunch involved. I really don’t want to go into more debt. When I thought back on the dream, I immediately imagined myself working full-time, having a baby and going to school. There was no art in that vision of the future for obvious reasons. But, I’ve started to look into other options…and that is yielding some interesting/promising results.

This dream also made me think about my friend Dee. Dee is my oldest friend. She lived (and still lives) across the street from my childhood home. I hadn’t called her back for a couple weeks because I was sad that she might not be able to come out to visit for my wedding like I was hoping. The dream reminded me to let go of my crap and call her. Happily, it looks like she will be able to come after all, and more importantly I got to touch base with my longtime friend.

Baldy Weather

I am passing through a neighborhood that has quite a bit of open space. I see a bald eagle perched in a tree top in someone’s front yard. I start to tell my friend about it, but after I go by a few more houses I stop talking when I see another bald eagle in a tree top. I am so surprised and elated to see the bald eagles again.

It’s baldy weather outside. Chilly, windy, with some flurries. I think I saw a deer in my dreams last night too.

More Pudu Puda

I woke up with this running through my head: “You think you have problems? Talk to Pudu.” Indeed Pudu has problems.

In addition to suffering from habitat loss and parasites (mostly worms), the pudu is also suffering because of the introduction of other types of deer, challenging their food supply. A little more information here.

Habitat destruction is slowing down, so their is hope for Pudu. But what can be done to help ensure their future?

Dream of Pudu

Dream: Driving and stopped on highway 1, near K-mart. I am across the street and down a little from the store. There is a group of pudu near the store. I look over at them. I really want to connect. One comes over.

He says, “I am always on the go, traveling–it will be nice to be with you for a while.” I am very happy about this. I open the door to my station wago, and he gets without any problem, which surprises me a little. He is about twice the size of Coco. I look carefully to see that it is not just a morph of Coco. He is not coco. I touch his fur and it is different from the dog’s, and it is nice. I am happy to be with the deer.

A friend is with me in the car. We drive off talking, with the pudu in the car. The pudu and I hang out a couple times. The second time I see that he has a little rectangular patch on the back of his lower neck that is missing fur. It is invested with ants. He says, “I thought you might be able to help me with this.” That’s why he came, I think. I think about this ant embedded under the skin problem. What can I do, how can this be addressed, what does it mean symbolically?

Wake: Last night I read about the endangered pudu, the smallest deer, that resides in Argentina and Chile. They are delicate little creatures with virtually no way of protecting themselves, and are suffering from habitat destruction. For about the millionth time I thought about how much I miss all the deer that live in Iowa. Argh! I miss seeing them and feeling them nearby, and interacting with them in the dreams–I really want to see them again. So happy to see them in this dream.

Ants and deer. One of my totem animals is the ant. Ants are patient, and diligent workers, they know that if they don’t get something they wanted, that’s okay because something better is coming along. The deer is gentle and persevering in a gentle way. Here ants have tried to make a home in the neck of the deer. Is there not enough patience represented in the gentle creature. Or have they been too patient? Ants are also pests. Perhaps it is time to be aggressive with this invader that has not been a polite guest–the people destroying their habitat perhaps?

Now I just have to figure out how to help.

I went to Rhode Island for a retreat and to stay on my friend’s organic farm for a few days. I had a super time with both. I got to see some deer–a mom and kid–very sweet. I hadn’t seen any deer since I got to Portland (not surprisingly). The East coast deer look very different from the Midwestern deer. They have a more reddish coat and more bambi-ish in general. I love them both, but the Eastern ones are cuter! Unfortunately everyone is very afraid of them because of the deer tics that are spreading Lyme disease like it is going out of style.
I saw lots of little animals and birds on the farm. Here is hummingbird for beauty and art, butterfly for transformation and frog for cleansing.

I am in a small space. A human-sized beautiful white swan is right behind me and another person is behind the swan. I turn around to look at the swan. I try to help the swan to lift off and fly by singing the trumpet song. The swan sings a little and stands up a bit. But the swan’s wings are very short, only a foot or so long and she can’t get off the ground. It may also be harder because there is no wind and we are so close together.

I’ve been working on story boards for “Fly Awake”. These are still in formation but looks like water color sketches related to bird visitation dreams. The different ways, for example, that eagle has offered support and guidance. There was a little of that in the original installation, along with the notebook part. I have also starting going back into the notebook area, putting together a new version from my writing and thoughts about flying/lucidity. It’s nice to go back into this part of the show, which I’ve been neglecting for a while. It is really helping me synthesize all messages.

The other day I was reading Vaishali from vol 25/no 4 of Dream Network. She wrote about becoming lucid and asking dream characters questions. She found that the characters weren’t very forthcoming with information. With a little help from some fellow dreamers she found that unconditionally loving the dream characters opened the doorways to communication.
It can be a challenge not to judge the images and ideas that come up in dreams. But they are all parts of ourselves, and if we alienate them, they may do the same to us. It was pretty exciting to get this information. Sometimes hearing things expressed in a new way really solidifies things.

I also saw a new thing in flight. Two crows were on a telephone wire. Instead of pushing off the wire and flapping wings, one leaned off at an angle, falling forward, then opening his wings to be caught by the wind.

1. I am looking for something rather clandestine. Going through a big old building with high ceilings. I enter into the spanish history room of the library and feel like a rocket. The room has shelves of old books, from floor to ceiling, great natural light from big windows and a ladder that rolls along the shelves. I feel like a rocket but am low and slow enough to read the shelves. I feel the crown of my head very strongly and information coming through from the lineage. I am very excited and grateful to have found the room. I bow down again and again to the lineage for their help in the dreamworld.

2. A man and a woman living in 2010 or 2020. She is from 2050, so it could be then. The man is from the past, he came to the future to find the woman. They are together, but not yet. They are in separate rooms. He is looking for something.
Later they are preparing to go back to 1950 (his time). My aunt is trying to get me to take all this children’s furniture, more than I’ve taken already. Her kids are around her (how I remember them–as children–not how they are, adults). She acts like my mother, very bossy, telling me what to do about everything.
They arrive in 1950. There is more natural land and open space, things are less overbuilt than she’s used to. She’s so very happy. She can expand much more in the relaxed environment. I think about how her reaction makes sense, considering the difference in feeling between the two time zones.
We are walking down the sidewalk together. I lift off and fly, I am golden eagle. He is a little behind me, on my left, and a little lower, he is a streak of shining white light–.

3. (two nights) See deer, just looking at me, in nature, briefly.
